Description

ENGLAND. Richard III, 1483-1485 AD. AR Groat (2.67 gm) of London, i. m. Halved sun and rose SR1. Crowned bust facing in tressure / Long cross. S.2154. Toned Choice VF. Rare. This first Sun-Rose mark was minted from June 26 to July 20, 1483. During this period, Edward V was still alive but Richard had usurped the throne and imprisioned the young heir in the Tower. Edward was not seen after July and is thought to have been murdered a few weeks later.
