Description
SASANIAN KINGS. Shapur II, 309-379 AD. AR Drachm (4.03 gm; 23 mm). Sunrise 848. Obverse, Shapur's bust turning right with three very large dots on each shoulder, reverse, fire altar with attendants and figure in the altar turning right, phrase "Raast(i)" (Truth) on the base of fire altar barely legible. Extremely rare and possibly unique with the dots on the shoulder. There is also an extremely rare example of Hormizd II with such dots on the crown and shoulder. Choice EF. Toned.
