Description

ILKHANS of PERSIA, Hulagu (b.1218, d.1256 AD). Æ (3.44 gm; 20 mm). Obverse; phrase "Al Sultan al a'zam, Hulagu khan, Khalad-Allah almolkan" meaning the Great Sultan Hulago who is loved and protected by Allah", reverse; horseman to the left trampling on a figure, phrase "Adl" divided to two, letters "AD" on the right and letter "L" to the left. Hulagu ended the Abbasid Khalifate under the advice of his Persian grand vizir and scientist Nasir-e Tusi. The last Abbasid khalif was sentenced to death by being wrapped in a blanket and thrown under marching horses to be trampled. Nice reddish-green patina. Choice VF / Good VF. Extremely Rare.
