PERSIA, Qajar period, Naseraldin Shah. 1848-1896 AD. Civic Copper (9.06 gm; 24 mm). Dated 1293 AH. Obverse phrase: “Zarb-e dar-alkhalfat e- Tehran"" (struk at the capital of Khalifate, Tehran(date under 1293), reverse; walking lion holding sword and the sun to the left, Kiani crown also known as Qajar crown on the top, value of ""50 dinar"" under the lion. Alaedini 66. Excellent clear strike for type. Nice reddish patina. Nicely centered. Choice Good VF. ""Persia in 19th century,starting with Fath Ali Shah spread the title ""Khalafat""(Califate) for Tehran to rival and challenge the claim of neighboring Ottoman Government as the sole leader of the Islamic world.""
