Description
An Italic iron spectacle fibula, Etruria, c. 7th - 6th Century BC, made from a continuous length of wire. There are two spirals, each with eight turns, separated by a figure-of-eight shape formed by two small loops of the wire, the pin and catch are formed from the ends of the inner-most loops. Intact with a stable brown patina. L: 4 ½” (11.4 cm). Cf. Hattatt, R., Ancient and Romano-British Brooches, (1982), nos. 182-184. Ex Los Angeles private collection. Value Range $500 - $600.
