Description

Eastern Europe, Imitating Thasos. Late 2nd-1st centuries B.C. AR tetradrachm (30 mm, 16.72 g, 11 h). Wreathed head of youthful Dionysos right / ΗΡΑΚΛΕΟΥΣ ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ ΘΑΣΙΩΝ, Herakles standing facing, head left, holding grounded club, lion's skin draped over arm; in inner left field, MH monogram. Kostial 956-8; OTA class I; CCCBM I 220-1. Small planchet flaw on obverse, otherwise well centered and good metal. Lightly toned. Nice very fine.

Purchased by the previous owner from Nora Molter at the San Jose Coin Show, 15 February 2004.
