Gaul, Massalia. Ca. 200-121 B.C. AR obol (10 mm, 0.73 g, 2 h). Bare head of Apollo left / M-A, wheel of four spokes. Depeyrot 31. Very fine.

Founded by Phokaian colonists ca. 600 B.C., Massalia was the first Greek settlement in the territory of what is now modern France. It became a wealthy trade center acting as middle man for trade between Gaul and Rome.
