Description
Lucania, Velia. Ca. 440/35-400 B.C. AR nomos (19 mm, 7.59 g, 9 h). Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with a griffin and scroll on neckguard / ΥΕΛΗΤΩ-Ν, lion attacking stag right. Williams 154 (O103/R120); SNG Ashmolean 1124 (same dies); SNG Lockett 545 (same dies); SNG Lloyd 518 (same dies); HN Italy 1270. Toned. Die flaw on stag's antlers as is normal for this issue. Nearly very fine.
