Description
INDO-PARTHIANS. Tanlis Mardates and Rangodeme (Mid-late 1st century BC). AR Drachm (1.92 gm; 18 mm). Margiana or Sogdiana mint. Imitating countermarked drachms of Parthian king Phraates IV. Diademed bust left; behind, eagle left, crowing king with wreath; on neck, circular “countermark” of helmeted head right with dotted border / Archer seated right on throne, holding bow. Senior 199.2D; Sellwood 91.13; Shore 473; Sunrise 494. Small chipping on the edge, otherwise well struck. Choice EF. Lightly toned.
