SASANIAN KINGS. Yazdgird I (390-420 AD). PB (Lead) Unit (2.24 gm; 15 mm). Bust turning right, unidentified monogram similar to head of an animal in front of face, reverse, at the center, figure turning right (Yazdgird I? with no crown) surrounded by nine crescents. Extremely rare both in metal and design as similar designs have been seen in AE but not in PB. The subject related to importance of number 9 in Zoroastrian religion is extremely extensive and beyond the scope of this description. Number 9 is associated to Persian “Khordad” or “Hordad”(Avestan “Haurvatat”) which symbolizes the esoteric knowledge and wisdom in its greatest extend. a bit wavy flan. Original find patina. Choice VF / EF. Extremely rare.
