Mexico, Colonial. Carlos III. 1783 Mo FF. AR 8 reales (37 mm, 23.85 g). Laureate bust of Carlos III right / Crowned arms between pillars. Cleaned with some salt water effect from sea salvage. Very fine. Comes with a COA from SSCA.

From the wreck of "El Cazador" sunk in 1784 off New Orleans in the Gulf of Mexico. The ship was carrying a cargo of Spanish milled dollars destined to pay the Spanish garrison of Louisiana. The disastrous wreck weakened the position of Spain in North America, contributing to the circumstances of the Louisiana purchase
