Description
SASANIAN KINGS. Yazdgird II. 438-457 AD. Æ (1.12 gm; 14 mm). Obverse, Yazdgird with standard crown turning right, letters (clockwise) "KYZ" for K(ay) Y(a)Z(dgird) in front of face reverse, fire altar with attendants with either a crescent or letter "Y" on the right side of fire. The tradition of using the ancient persian tile of "Kay" meaning "Great king) as seen in records such as Shahnameh for Kay Kavoos or Kay Khosrau cintinued to Valkash's official coinage. Reddish patina. Choice Good VF / VF. Extremely rare.
