India, Sanchi region . Ca. 2nd century B.C. Æ coin (24x17 mm, 6.70 g). Stupa with double nandipada to right / Stupa with double nandipada to right. Not listed in Mitchiner and Pieper. A new discovery. This depiction of a stupa is not recorded anywhere. Extremely rare and unlisted.

The Great Stupa at Sanchi is a World Heritage Site. Built by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BC, this coin was issued for circulation near this important Buddhist monument during its early period.
