Yazdgird I, had a great relationship with Arab chieftains and Lakhmid kings that resided in southern Mesopotamia, and southern shore of Persian gulf including modern day Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman. He sent his successor Bahram (Varhran) V as a young man to Lakhmid ruler Al-Nu'man for rigorous training. Sasanians maintained a supportive and friendly relationship with Lakhmid Arabs until the time of Khosrau II when the Perso-Byzantine war began to expand and Persians removed Lakhmids thus removing the buffer zone they had for several centuries with Arabia.
