Description

KUSHANO-SASANIAN, Peroz III (350-375 AD). Æ unit (10.40 gm; 26 mm). obverse, Peroz bust turning right, with ram’s horns crown, reverse, standard Shapur II (309-379 AD), fire altar with attendants, figure in the fire turning right (with Shapur II crown?). More than likely given the purely Sasanian reverse design, this Æ unit is an indication of the establishment of Shapur II control over the Kushan empire whom he successfully destroyed in his multi decades campaign. The crown is indication of Peroz III (see Gobl 1096 and Cribb SI 19-28) might also represent Shapur II in Kushano Sasanian crown of Peroz III. Nice original brown and earthen patina. Choice Good VF. Unpublished and of highest rarity among both Sasanian and Kushano Sasanian series.
